KIZC MORS
Across five exhibitions at KIZC MORS, part of Slovenia’s Ministry of Defence, the central challenge was to connect contemporary art with a defence institution while preserving the artists’ perspectives and room for critical discussion.
My curatorial approach focused on projects that could speak to questions relevant to both artistic practice and military life: home, care, safety, love, land and forgiveness. The selection brought together work that opened these subjects to critical reflection alongside exhibitions that approached belonging and patriotism through their visual and aesthetic qualities. Each exhibition offered a distinct way into this relationship, rather than asking every artist to address it in the same way.
I combined this curatorial work with production and promotion, carrying the selected projects through to their public presentation. Across the collaboration, the aim was to create encounters between the artists’ work and the institution’s audience, with enough common ground to invite engagement and enough openness to allow different interpretations.
Artists: Jon Žagar (Sintropija), Tilen Pepevnik (Ples zob), Zala Česnik (Street art, dizajn in vegi stejk), Karolina Radotić Klarić (Med dobrim in zlim) and Janez Škrlec (Telo je obala brez horizonta). Curation, production and promotion: Matej Tomažin / Artopolis Institute. Collaboration: KIZC, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia.
