HIPERprodukcija
HIPERprodukcija questioned the pressure to constantly produce new work as a way of establishing artistic legitimacy. The curatorial challenge was to address this pressure through the project’s content, form and production, so that its structure became part of the argument.
I developed the initial exhibition idea into three successive group exhibitions at the Mladi zmaji youth centres in Zalog, Šiška and Črnuče. Multiplying the exhibitions and presenting them one after another made the rhythm of production central to the project. This format questioned an environment in which producing more can become the measure of an artist’s professional standing.
As curator and producer, I carried the project from concept to delivery, selecting and inviting artists, arranging their fees and organising the exhibitions. An accompanying talk in Črnuče addressed art as a profession, connecting the exhibition format with the working conditions it examined.
The project brought its subject and method together: a sequence of exhibitions that enacted the pressure of continual production while arguing for the time artistic work needs for reflection and a sustained engagement with what it represents.
The project was co-funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
