Artopolis
Artists’ work extends beyond making art: documenting and photographing works, preparing them for presentation, managing sales, packing and arranging transport all require time and coordination. The challenge behind Artopolis was to organise these supporting activities into a connected process and reduce the administrative and logistical burden on artists.
As the owner of the platform and its codebase, I designed both the digital system and the workflows around it. A structured artwork archive connects documentation, artist portfolios and catalogue listings with availability, orders, sales administration and transport coordination. Practical educational materials on photography and packing support artists in preparing works for presentation and delivery; Artopolis arranges their transport.
The approach combines tasks handled by the platform, services coordinated through the institute and clear guidance for the steps artists carry out themselves. Tržni analitik adds market information to support pricing decisions, using a comparison methodology and price-range logic I designed.
Development combined my frontend work and leadership of two developers through the end of 2022 with later independent development. The result is a connected organisational and digital framework for presenting, selling and moving artworks, designed to let artists devote more attention to artistic production.
The platform’s development was co-funded through the Centre for Creativity (CzK) A1 concept-validation call in 2019 and A2 creative start-up call in 2020–2021, with support from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.
The project was initiated together with Iris Pokovec, who contributed until 2022. Initial database and backend development, and Market Analyst co-authorship: Tadej Tomažin. Initial security and system logic: Elijah Hlastan. Packing and photography instructions: text co-written with Jan Dolar; video filming and editing by Jan Dolar. Artopolis TV: direction, filming and interviews by Matej Tomažin; editing by Jan Dolar. Legal, financial and copy support also contributed during the development phases. Artworks: participating artists. Legal advice: Jasmin Dizdarević. Former social media manager: Tajda Novšak.
